A plain-language privacy notice under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
This privacy notice applies to wilhelmvanzyl.com (the “site”), an independent publication of Johan Wilhelm van Zyl. It explains how personal information is handled in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) of South Africa.
The site has no newsletter, no subscription form, no order form and no accounts. The only processing is aggregate, privacy-friendly analytics via Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not track you across sites.
Until 26 September 2026 the site offered an email newsletter and a preorder form for a notebook. Both were withdrawn on that date and no further submissions are accepted. Email addresses submitted to the newsletter form, and the name, email address, country and quantity submitted to the preorder form, were collected through Netlify form handling. Any such records still held are retained only pending deletion, are not used for any purpose, and will not be used to contact you. Where a preorder payment was taken, it was processed by a third-party payment provider; we never saw or stored card details.
The site is hosted by Netlify and served through Cloudflare. These operators may process information on servers outside South Africa. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone.
You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to withdraw consent, and to object to its processing. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).
